I’m a creative director and product designer from metro Detroit, so the automotive industry was practically a given. Eighteen years in, I’ve designed for GM, Ford, Ferrari, and Yamaha, with detours into bicycles and luxury hotels. I’m as comfortable designing software as I am designing a campaign.
I was the first member of Shift Digital’s in-house design team and spent 12 years there, moving from Art Director to Creative Director while leading design for 50+ automotive, powersports, hospitality, and retail brands. When I started, our lead management platform lived entirely in Photoshop. Thousands of dealers across the country relied on it, and we kept updating it that way for years, one painstaking composition at a time.
Once Figma came along, I taught myself the tool and rebuilt the UI as a system of components that could scale across every client. I took the same approach to a newer, mobile-first platform of customer profiling and marketing apps. Somewhere along the way, I became a product designer without ever formally getting the title.
I started out building web banners at McCann and have stayed hands-on ever since. I enjoy the early stage of a project, when nobody knows what it should look like yet, and I enjoy the late stage, when I’m nudging a detail around because it’s clearly off by a single pixel.
I take the work seriously and myself less so. If you’ve got a complicated problem that needs to feel simple, I’d love to hear about it.
