Storm Ross was wrapping up his doom metal opus, Gravity & Pandemonium, and needed some album artwork to go along with the CD release. I created this early in my career when I was taking a more abstract fine arts approach to a lot of my freelance design work.

I used a blend of photo manipulation and digital illustration to achieve the painterly effect used throughout the album artwork. I was still fairly new to packaging design, so there was a bit of trial and error getting this right. The final product turned out beautifully, which is why I still keep this one in my portfolio. It’s also a reminder of how much my design methodology has changed over time.
